Hui-Chao (Reggie) Lee, PhD, LSUHS Assistant Professor of Neurology, is the Principal Investigator on a 3-Year Transformational Project Award funded by the American Heart Association for $300,000.

Jeremy Kamil, PhD, Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, is the Principal Investigator awarded a $2M 5-year ROI competing continuation grant by the National Institute of Health.

Hong Sun, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Cellular Biology and Anatomy, was awarded a $1.8M 5-year R01 competing continuation  grant from the NIH National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

Krista Rodgers, PhD, was recently awarded an NIH RO1 grant entitled “Mechanisms of Juvenile Neurogenesis and Post-Stroke Recovery:  Determining the Role of Age-Associated Neuroimmune Interactions” from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Art Yurdagul, PhD, Assistant Professor of Molecular and Cellular Physiology, was awarded a $2.8M 5-year ROI Grant by the National Institutes of Health's National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

Nirav Dhanesha, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pathology and Translational Pathobiology, received a 5-year $2.24 million R01 grant from the NIH’s National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for his project “Mechanisms for Deep Vein Thrombosis following Stroke.”

Oren Rom, PhD, RD, Assistant Professor of Pathology and Translational Pathobiology, has been awarded a 5-year, $1.6 million R01 grant from the NIH’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) for his project, “Lipidated Amino Acids in Cardiometabolic Diseases.”

The Center for Redox Biology and Cardiovascular Disease CoBRE at LSU Health Shreveport, led by Principal Investigator Chris Kevil, PhD, was awarded a $730,000 supplement award from the NIH’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) for “SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance in North Louisiana.”

School of Graduate Studies student Brenna Pearson-Gallion was awarded a F31 Pre-Doctoral Fellowship from the NIH’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) for her project “EphA2 in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease”.

Chris Kevil, PhD, Vice Chancellor for Research at LSU Health Shreveport, was awarded a 4-year NIH R01 grant for $1.7 million from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for his project, “CSE regulation of vascular remodeling.”

Dr. Arrigo DeBenedetti receives Spring 2021 Feist Weiller Cancer Center (FWCC) Bridging Award grant in the amount of $100,000.

Diana Cruz, PhD, Assistant Professor, joined the LSUHS Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology in July 2016. Her current research looks at the interface between the endocrine and cardiovascular systems, emphasizing the effects of stress signaling (glucocorticoid receptors) on cardiovascular health.

Dr. Sushil Jain, a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at LSU Health Shreveport, has been awarded a 3-year, $1.52 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for a project entitled: Optimization of 25-hydroxy-vitamin D levels in African Americans.

Dr. David Gross, a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at LSU Health Shreveport, has been awarded a 4-year, $1.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for a project entitled “Genome Architecture and Gene Control in Response to Stress.” 

Christopher G. Kevil, PhD, Vice Chancellor for Research at LSU Health Shreveport (LSUHS), has been named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the Science family of journals.

KTBS3 - Dr. Arrigo De Benedetti, LSUHS Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, talks about flaws in current metastatic prostate cancer drugs and promising new research for the disease being done at LSU Health Shreveport.

Dr. Kenneth McMartin, Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology, Toxicology & Neuroscience, received the Career Achievement Award from the Clinical and Translational Toxicology Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology.

Research Night is a celebration of the variety and the breadth and depth of research we have happening in the School of Allied Health Professions. It’s a faculty run and faculty implemented committee that puts this event together to celebrate the research happening in the School of Allied Health Professions. 

LSU Health Shreveport and Air Force Global Strike Command, have signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement to study the physiological and cognitive stress that B-52 Aircrews experience on long-duration deployments.

As Director of the BSL-3 Research Facility, Dr. Comer will identify and implement the research direction of the lab to support growth in research activity, educating internal and external audiences about the BSL-3 lab and promoting its capabilities and research impact.

Five new patents have been awarded to current or retired LSU Health Shreveport faculty members in fiscal year 2024. These patents not only protect the intellectual property of the inventors but offer new processes or treatment methods options that significantly advance science and medical care.

On Thursday, February 15, LSU Health Shreveport Office for Research celebrated their successes of the previous year, including more than $23 million in extramural funding and 100+ clinical trials.
