Breaking the Boundaries in Science

Faculty, staff and students at LSU Health Shreveport are actively engaged in research in a variety of biomedical areas, with concentrations in cancer, cardiovascular sciences, virology, neuroscience, addiction  and immunology. A core part of the institution’s mission, research on campus ranges from basic science to translational research and testing the latest therapies in clinical trials.  Learn more about us.
The School of Graduate Studies helps to train future scientists, and our eight centers, four of which are Centers of Excellence, further elevate the research portfolio. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research supports these endeavors and is comprised of the Office for Sponsored Programs and Technology Transfer, Research Development and Management, Human Research Protections Program (HRPP), the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and the Research Core Facilities.

Research Centers

LSU Health Shreveport is home to four designated Centers of Research Excellence, three Louisiana Board of Regents and LSU Board of Supervisors approved Centers, and three National Institutes of Health Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE).

Graduate Programs

The School of Graduate Studies at LSU Health Shreveport offers two Master's of Science degrees, graduate degrees in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology & Anatomy, Microbiology & Immunology, Molecular & Cellular Physiology, and Pharmacology, Toxicology, & Neuroscience, and a MD/PhD program.

The Office of Technology Transfer at LSU Health Shreveport is committed to supporting faculty entrepreneurs and innovating novel licensable discoveries that positively impact the future of the health care industry. 

Student Research Programs

LSU Health Shreveport offers pipeline research programs for high school and undergraduate students who are interested in science and healthcare, providing them with real-world experience to help advance their future academic and career goals. 

Core Facilities

Research core facilities at LSU Health Shreveport provide investigators, postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students with access to a wide variety of research services, educational and training opportunities, and state-of-the-art technologies.

Clinical Trials

LSU Health Shreveport has experience conducting clinical trials in the Pharmaceutical and Bio-Technology field across various medical specialties and offers clinical trials capabilities in over 100 therapeutic areas in Phase I-IV clinical trials and Gene Therapy trials.
